Community Race Relations

I apologise for the lack of postings made recently, I’ve been at Police College on my training course to become a Police Community Support Officer (PCSO).  For those of you who don’t know what they are, they are a rank below a Police Constable, and have slightly diminished powers (for example, we don’t have police powers of arrest).  Our main job is to communicate with the public in a day to day basis and gain intelligence on any goings on in the neighbourhood.  Being on the street for 7-8 hours a day means we will come in close to contact with people of all different race, religions and backgrounds.

On our first day, we were given a handout which had the customs of all the ‘main’ faiths we would come along in our dealings with the public (advice on what to do if you were going in their house for example).  I thought I knew a little about how to behave in other peoples houses, but I was shocked to find that I in actual fact knew very little.  Next week, we have a two day course on Community Race Relations.  Basically, a class on how to treat other human beings of different ethnicity.  I think it will be interesting to see what it will be like…  More later.
